My very first website… 🙈
A few months ago I updated my personal website, giving it a fresh lick of paint ready for 2020. This was in fact the 10th iteration of my website and I found myself looking back at all the previous versions that I’ve made over the years.
My first ever website was put live on September 1st, 2014. I was in my 2nd and final year of college and just learnt how to code and making my own personal website seemed like the best place to put those skills to the test. This first iteration was code using HTML and CSS, and came in at 15.2MB.
This first iteration of my website didn’t stay on the web for long as it was soon updated on 22nd September (yes, 22 days later) with a new responsive design, which had a file size of 81.8MB. But, and you guessed it, that version wasn’t up for long either. In fact it only lasted two more days than its previous version. My website went on a major diet and had a file size of 6.22MB (not the slimmest it’s been though).
It wasn’t until the 7th iteration of my site when I stopped re-designing it every couple of months — thankfully!
My latest version of my personal website has taken a lot simpler approach moving forward into 2020, which is perfect whilst I’m working full-time and not actively looking for freelance work.
I love looking back at my old work, seeing how much I’ve progressed put into perspective how much I’ve learnt over the years and definitely the reason why I will continue to keep all the work I do to allow for these odd moments of reflection.
